On Thursday 17 July approximately 12 people assembled at the Onehunga
RSA for an introduction to goalball.
There were 4 female players and 6 male players with an additional 2 who
decided to just watch the proceedings.
The evening took the form of a short discussion on goalball, its origins
and rules. Then a chance for everyone to get orientated to the court
dimensions. After this a short warm-up was held and then some teaching
of the defensive aspects of the game.
After everyone got confident with the block and defence positions a
couple of gentle paced games were had.
Everyone said that they enjoyed the evening and were keen to have
another go when the Auckland Blind Sport and Recreation club held
another evening. The session finished with the group retiring to the
restaurant for a well earnt meal and social gathering.
It was a great evening and hopefully another one will follow soon.
There is sufficient interest to get a female team together and a male
team for any competitions that may be held.
