Notes for Parents Of Blind And Visually Impaired Children

Blind children have to face some significant issues when learning to move around in the world. Developing skills in Orientation and Mobility greatly improves a child’s ability to explore their environment. Goalball can help significantly in this by providing a set environment and a circumstance that allows a child to move freely, as well as providing cues for improving orientation.

Fitness, both muscular and aerobic is difficult wend movement around an environment contains hazards. Goalball once again provides the perfect environment in which a child can actively play without these restrictions.

Being able to play with other children (and even parents) in a physical pursuit is another challenge. Goalball is unique in that all players play together on the same level. This allows blind and visually impaired children to play a sport not only against other blind and visually impaired children, but with sighted peers and parents as well.
